the fitness road

See the chisled thighs, the tight abs, the extraordinary balance? Yeah. This is not me. I look like a mom with four kids and some, you know, "leftovers." If THIS woman is a mom of four kids, I don't even want to be her friend. But I did just do something fun. I think. I started a fitness program - Sparkpeople.com, and I am pretty hopeful about making some changes. I have 28 pounds to lose by October, and if I put it in writing like I'm doing now and make myself accountable to everyone who reads my blog, I will be ashamed if I do not stick with it, and I really, really do want to get rid of these pesky pounds. So, I give you permission to ask me if I'm doing 30 minutes of cardio four times a week. And if I'm not, I want you to throw an apple at me.

  1. Hey! I just finished my 6th week of consistently excercising 3-4 times/week. I don't exercise for weight, but rather to keep the chest tubes at bay--our family history reeks of open heart surgeries! Not sure if you have seen Leslie Sansone. I use her stuff, primarily because I can do it early in the morning (before it gets light enough to walk outside--cause it's the only chance I get) and it is a GREAT workout for all muscles and cardio. She is a Christian fitness trainer and has walking DVDs--many different ones. My faves are the walk slim series--and if you get some the 4 or 5 mile walk ones are the most diverse, you can pick and choose miles out of them to do a 30 minute workout. There are many mornings that I do 3 miles in about 37 minutes. It is awesome! Good luck! Melanie

  2. Awww, thanks guys for the encouragement! You are both inpiration for me to stay committed. I already did my strength training this morning. (I'm feeling quite proud of myself.) Maybe this will be the year I get in a swimsuit again!

  3. I'm not only a member, but also a client of sparkpeople. ;-) Actually, realized I joined fall of '97... then, I got pregnant & it all went to you know where. So, now I'm trying to get back in the groove, taking into consideration that I'm still nursing Anastasia. Maybe we could be spark buddies :-)
